How Windscreen Chip Repair Works
When you call, we'll ask a few quick questions: where the chip is, roughly how big it is, and where your car is. That tells us straight away if it's repairable.
A repair itself is quick. We clean the damaged area, inject a special resin into the chip, and cure it so the glass is sealed and strengthened again. Most repairs take 20 to 30 minutes from start to finish.
You don't need to bring your car anywhere. Our mobile units carry everything needed to do the job at your home, your workplace, or even at the roadside if you've broken down.
Repair or Replace? How We Tell the Difference
Not every chip can be repaired. It depends on the size of the damage, how deep it is, and where it sits on the windscreen.
As a rough guide:
- Chips smaller than a £2 coin can usually be repaired
- Damage right at the edge of the windscreen often needs a full replacement
- Cracks longer than about 25mm typically can't be repaired safely
- Damage directly in the driver's line of sight may need replacing even if it's small
If we get to you and find a repair won't hold properly or won't pass an MOT, we'll tell you honestly and talk you through replacement instead. We'd rather give you the right answer than a quick sale.
Is Chip Repair Covered by Insurance?
If you've got fully comprehensive insurance, your policy will often cover the cost of a windscreen repair completely, with no excess to pay. Just have your insurance details ready when we arrive and we'll handle the rest, including speaking to your insurer directly.
If you're not on a fully comprehensive policy, don't worry. We charge a fair, competitive price and we'll always confirm the cost with you before we start.
Every policy is different, so the best way to know for certain is to give us a call. We can usually tell you what to expect before we even arrive.
Why We Only Repair in Dry Conditions
A windscreen repair needs to bond properly to do its job. If the glass is wet when we apply the resin, it won't seal correctly, and that can mean the repair fails or lets water through later.
We'll always check the conditions before starting work. If it's pouring down, we'll either find some shelter or arrange a time that works better. It takes a bit longer to get right, but it means the repair actually lasts, which is why we can back it with a lifetime guarantee.
